It was only in the small hours of the morning that Ye Tan awoke from a nightmare. Ever since his inner breath had been hollowed out, it was harder and harder to conceal the weariness of his body, and it was very hard for him to wake up as usual. Now that he had a new Master, he couldn’t be lazy, so Yaksha got up, dressed neatly, and pulled a sword out from beside his pillow.
The sword didn’t have a name, it was originally a common weapon Ye Tan used to train with at the Nightrunner. After accompanying Young Master Qin Qi, Qin Kezou gave him the “Spring and Autumn Passing” sword, and after Qin Qi died he’d snapped it in half and buried it alongside his Master. The Second Young Master once gave him “Ku Rong”, but he’d left it behind when he was expelled from Zhongli Court. Now, the only sword left by his side was the first one he ever had.
Just as Ye Tan pushed the door open, a human figure tumbled down under his feet, knocking against the floor and letting out a soft cry.
Ye Tan looked at him quietly, not too surprised. Now that he had no inner power, he naturally couldn’t sense even someone who wasn’t far away.
“Master?”
Jun Xuanheng massaged his forehead as he got up, dazedly asking: “A-Tan, why did you get out of bed?”
“This subordinate trains at this hour every day for as long as I am able to move.” Ye Tan spoke.
“Ai….. don’t worry. Your injuries still haven’t healed, right?” Jun Xuanheng stood up and patted the dust off of his clothes, and once he was done he lifted his hand to take his and lead him along, “Go back first and lay down, okay?”
Ye Tan unconsciously avoided him.
It was hard for Jun Xuanheng to avoid the sense of loss in his heart, but he kept smiling at him: “Wait until your inner power is cured to train again. Don’t worry, I have a way.”
Ye Tan had heard about this method of drawing out inner breath, and knew that the way he spoke of could only be this, so he resolutely refused: “Even if it succeeded and this subordinate’s inner power recovered, it would only be third-rate gongfu. Master doesn’t need to harm a first-rate master for this subordinate’s lowly body.”
“We don’t need other people, I can do it.” Jun Xuanheng’s eyes glistened as he looked at him, cheerfully smiling, “I’m willing to do this small thing for A-Tan.”
That smile sank into his deathly still heart, and he couldn’t stop it from stirring up small waves. Ye Tan was stunned, and calmly turned him down: “Master is joking, there’s a difference between superior and subordinate. How could you harm your own cultivation for this subordinate?”
Jun Xuanheng suddenly stopped.
He remembered that drawing out his inner breath had caused irreparable damage in his body. In his past life, he had suffered this loss and had no way to struggle when he fell into the Second Young Master’s hands, which led to an inescapable tragedy. Now, he still wasn’t the system administrator, so he could only depend on the Modifier Tool to make small changes, he absolutely couldn’t follow that same doomed path again.
Ye Tan saw the starlight in his Master’s eyes die out and lose its radiance, then he looked down in thought and said: “That’s right, it can’t be me.”
Ye Tan closed his eyes, thinking: This is the way it should be.
“In any case, recovery is possible, there’s definitely a way. Trust me, A-Tan.” Jun Xuanheng pushed him back into the room and stuffed him into the bed, turning his head to look at the full moon through the open window, “How can we let the wind blow in? It’s not good to catch a cold.” He closed the window, then untied the bamboo curtain and lowered it, straightening out the wrinkles in the curtain.
There was no moonlight in the room, having been completely covered, so when Jun Xuanheng turned around wanting to leave, he stopped in his steps.
Ye Tan was laying on the bed, listening to the rustling of Jun Xuanheng groping about for a long time and only taking a few steps.
Ye Tan: “Master, you can’t see?”
Jun Xuanheng felt the edge of the table with his hands and slowly moved forward, helplessly saying: “Yeah. It’s too dark.”
Ye Tan turned over and got up from the bed, accurately reaching out and taking Jun Xuanheng’s forearm, saying: “Please follow this subordinate.”
This was the first time he’d taken the initiative to touch him, and a hint of surprise emerged in Jun Xuanheng, so he followed along his forearm until he reached the back of Ye Tan’s hand and clasped their hands together, walking as he smiled: “I’ll have to trouble you again. A-Tan’s night vision is still so good, I’m really envious.”
Ye Tan kept silent as he listened.
He helped his Master move to the door, pushed the door open to get out, and as they were in front of a corridor that went in three different directions, Ye Tan asked: “Which way?”
“What do you mean which way?” Jun Xuanheng didn’t react for a while.
Ye Tan: “The room you’re staying in.”
Jun Xuanheng said: “I’m not staying in another room. I….. I’ve only ever slept in this room before.”
Hearing this, Ye Tan withdrew his hand, knelt down on one knee, and apologised with a blank face: “This subordinate was inconsiderate, I hope master will punish me.”
“Hey, that’s not what I meant ah. A-Tan…..” Jun Xuanheng stood in front of him, wanting to help him up, but he tried to force him up several times and Ye Tan remained motionless like a mountain. He was at a loss, and couldn’t help but sigh.
This time, when he had restarted the file, he’d met Ye Tan and always felt separated from him. Originally….. in his first life, from the first time he met him, talking, giving each other names, holding hands, even sleeping in the same bed all felt like such natural things.
Now he stood next to him, but it was as if they were on opposite ends of the world. He could clearly sense his discomfort when he stayed in the room. So much so that the more he wanted to get close, the more timid he became. In any case, he couldn’t say anything about wanting to sleep next to him, so he could only secretly nestle outside of the door.
He didn’t understand why it came to this, didn’t understand what on earth was missing, and that was exactly the thing that made him panic most.

TN: This side story ends here. A bit anticlimactic, I know, but it seems to have been posted as a filler at the time. The final extra story is a little adventure with A-Tan and JXH again <3
